A very rare patch made on felt for the 418th Night Fighter Squadron.

Patch measures 6 inches high by 5 1/2 inches wide.

This unit was active from 1943 to 1945 in the Pacific theater. They were originally a countermeasure to Japanese night fighters but as the Japanese lost aircraft they conducted routine daytime missions.

This manufacturing technique for squadron patches began as early as 1939 and continued throughout the war. It is much less common than embroidered.
