Photo of a fierce WW2 Japanese Army Private.
He is wearing a rubberized canvas belt, triangular name badge and 54th Infantry Regiment ciphers on his Type 98 Tunic.
He might have fought in China but then would have shipped off to either Bougainville or the Solomon Islands. The 54th Regiment was broken up and its battalions were sent to both campaigns.
He certainly would have perished as almost no Japanese were taken prisoner in either campaign.
