This is a rare accessory carried by all Navy pilots operating over water.

This is a telescoping survival flag with kapok sewn into the four edges to make the flag float in case the pilot went down in the ocean.

It was carried in a narrow, rectangular, flight suit leg pocket.

This Flag measures 38 x 30 unfolded.

When folded and retracted the whole assembly is about 8 inches long.

Attached to the pole is a 27 inch retention cord.  This would be attached to the pilot so the flag would not float away.  This is the first one we have seen with the original retention cord!
