Here is a World War II Japanese naval landing force officers map case.

This  one is made of leather and lacks the star. Stars are found on all army map cases but not on Navy cases.

The absence of a star means that it was available for sale in naval bases and just off naval bases for officers to purchase. Like a sword & binoculars, map cases were a distinct sign of being an officer.

Leather is sound. Fully adjustable shoulder strap.

The final photograph shows this map case next to a naval landing Force binoculars which is currently available here on enemy military. The binoculars, of course, are not included with this map case. They are shown for reference only.
