A nice, combat used, Japanese naval landing force tunic.
Although the markings on the interior of the tunic are illegible, we can say that this tunic was most definitely made in 1944. Likely, in the earlier part of 1944 due to the pleated pockets and brass buttons.
The rate is for a seman first class in the engineering department.
Seaman in the engineering department often had no particular skill. As a result, they were the first picked by the ship’s captain to be part of a landing force.
And as the Japanese ran out of vessels toward the end of World War II, more and more sailors were converted to ground and based defense forces.
