On May 25th, 1940, the wearing of an Anchor on the epaulettes for Petty Officers of the Naval Landing Force was discontinued
From that date, going forward until the end of the War, Petty Officers wore the PO anchor on their collars instead.
Officer’s also switched to collar tabs in lieu of soft shoulder boards on that date.
These collar tabs were made in various ways, including an actual brass anchor (early) and an embroidered anchor. These were issued on black wool, black cotton or green cotton.
No photos depict these Petty Officer’s collar tabs being worn on ship-board uniforms. These were exclusive to wear on the green tunic.
In addition to the collar tabs, POs wore their rate on their sleeve as well.
See Nakata plate 550.
The last two photographs show the petty officer’s anchor being worn on the collars l of the POs shown. These are yellow on green embroidered worn late in the war.
