This is a really fine pair of WW2 Japanese Army winter mittens.

The exterior is wool, with a fleece lining.

The long cord ties through a loop in the upper, interior, of the arctic parka, between the shoulder blades.  From there, each mitten is passed through a corresponding sleeve.  This way, the mittens are permanently attached to the parka via the cord.  As, such you can never drop your mitten in the snow.

These were worn by the invading force during the Aluetian Campaign and in China.
