This is a very uncommon World War II Japanese army officer’s backpack.

This backpack is designed to carry the rain cape, rolled around the outside edge; plus a small metal, rectangular mess kit at the bottom of the pack.  As you can see, there is provision for pencils or pens.

all of the straps, buckles and ties are present.

This one is named underneath the flap to the Japanese army officer who carried it.

The inside of one shoulder strap has had the thin leather lining come unstitched. This is an easy repair if you choose to do so.
