This is a World War II Japanese army officer’s private purchase field cap. As in most armies and navies officers purchase their own uniforms, they are not government issued.

In Japan in World War II many clothing manufacturers and tailors made uniforms to Japanese military specifications. The workmanship and materials were generally a much higher quality than the enlisted uniforms and equipment. This cap is no different.

It is made of high-quality gabardine wool with a raised five pointed star. Enlisted caps would have a simple, five pointed star sewn right to the cap itself. Officers caps had a raise five pointed star, either in a circular disc or pentagon.

Also enlisted cats are profusely marked on the interior where officer’s caps typically would just have a size marking and perhaps also a tailor mark.

This cap is in fine condition as you can see with no visible nothing.
