This is an extremely rare dog tag for a Croatian member of the 2nd (Independent) Police Battalion, whose apparent roster number was 175.
In German occupied Croatia, called the Independent State of Croatia (1941-1945), the SS Raised several a SS Division, plus Regiments & Independent Battalions of Croations Field Police, mostly volunteers, but some conscripts.
The Officers and NCOs were German but the lower ranks were all Croats.
These 32,000 men in the SS-led Police units targeted Serbs, Jews and Romanians as part of a large-scale campaign of genocide, as well as anti-fascist or dissident Croats and Bosnian Muslims. They were brutal thugs.
Only a handful of these dog tags survived; few are in the United States. Most seen are dug ups.
The reverse is blank.
