As World War II is coming to a closing in Germany, leather was in short supply as were other raw goods used to manufacture war material.

As a result, the Germans came up with a product called prestoff. This is basically paper, pressed together with glue and heat. It certainly did not last as long as leather, but on the exterior, it appeared to be leather.

The tongue to which the buckle attaches is missing. It could have been removed or perhaps never added at the factory.  In either case, the soldier to whom this belt was issued pressed the prongs of his belt, buckle through the belt itself so that the belt could be worn.

this belt measures 39 3/4 inches.
