These were first seen in combat on Kwajalein in early 1944 by members of the Fourth Marine Divison.  

After that they can be seen in every invasion thereafter all the way to Iwo Jima and Okinawa.  

They were used in Korea and also in Vietnam.

They have an integral mosquito net and a camouflage body for wear over the M1 helmet.
