This is a working heads up gun sight used on all US Navy Carrier planes and USMC planes from WW2. This is THE tool used to shoot down Japanese aircraft and hit surface targets with machine guns or cannons during WW2.
As you can see, it sits in the front of the cockpit and reflects the spider web machine gun sight onto the Japanese plane it follows.
It is in perfect working order and only needs light to illuminate the reticle.
Well marked including a 1943 date in yellow. It looks like 1948 but there would have been no contracts three years after the war to make any more costly war material. The other thing the yellow date could indicate is an inspection for serviceability.
The level bubble moves freely left and right.
To illuminate, you only need to add a light source through the base. In this case we used a flashlight. This could easily be converted into a very cool lamp for your man cave, if your Corsair already had one!
