During WWII the standard issued canteen was aluminum with a maker's mark on the bottom or on the rear. All branches of the US Armed forces used the same canteen.
A cup, with a folding handle, could be carried at the bottom of the canteen inside the pouch.
Two canteens were carried in combat zones due to the lack of potable water.
