Here’s an investment grade Tula, first year production, AKM parts kit in 7.62X39 mm with old-school cold, hammer, forged, chrome lined, barrel and 1960 dated sling. This would look great with your other three 1960r Tula kits!

The Tula Arsenal has a very long history of manufacturing firearms for Russia and the Soviet Union. The Tula Arsenal begin serial production of the AK modernize version AKM in 1960. Conversely, Izhmash has been making the AK pattern rifle since the late 1940s. The quantity of AK is made by Izhmash simply dwarfs that made by Tula.

Therefore, Tula Arsenal AKs are simply much more difficult to find. Their rarity and unique look make them very desirable on the Collector market. Izhmash arsenal had approximately 12 years of serial production of the AK pattern rifle prior to Tula beginning production. Tula-made AKs later developed into a very distinct pattern of proof marks, cruder milling techniques and different colored wood. They simply look different than an Izhmash made AK.

This kit:

  • This is the exact kit you’ll receive in a few days time. These are not stock photos.
  • This is exactly how we received this parts kit. We did not substitute any parts nor did we add any parts. The installation of the barrel is the only work we did.
  • As you can see, the trunnion is dated 1960 and has various proofs near the barrel pin.
  • The serial number on the trunnion matches the serial number on the bolt, bolt carrier, top cover, and gas tube.
  • The location and marking method on the top cover is unique for first year production. As you can see, it has the block style Tula font in both letters and the numbers. In later years, Tula electro penciled the serial number on the rear of the top cover. This later style of electro, pencil marking is now commonly referred to as “chicken scratch.”
  • The selector switch, op rod and leaf sight are not numbered. These were routinely serialized to the receiver in later years of Tula production. However, because this kit came as seen, it is likely that these component parts were not serialized during the first year of production.
  • The leaf sight is distinctively and uniquely Tula in that the 4 has a flat top as you can see.
  • In 1960 Tula & Izhmash used laminated pistol grips rather than bakelite.
  • The wood shown came with this rifle. As you can see, the wood is laminated and has that distinct Tula “red iodine” color.
  • As you can see, the buttstock is heavily proofed, including the Circle K proof mark on the left side.
  • The rifle apparently was seldom used, if at all, during the life of the rifle.
  • The sling, as you can see, is dated 1960 and is new old stock, just like the rifle.
  • The barrel is a European male, cold, hammer, forged, chrome lined, new old stock barrel.
  • The state of the art jig was used to install the barrel onto the trunnion so that headspace could probably be set. Aiko and Nogo gauge was used to ensure proper headspace.
  • The barrel components were installed using a state of the art jig such that the front sight ,the gas block, and the rear side line up perfectly, with zero cant. Moreover, a laser bore sight was used so this rifle could ultimately be zeroed.
  • Let the 69 photos help you decide if this lot is for you or not. They depict exactly what you will receive in a few days time.
