In the mid 1950 to the early 1960s, the PLA tried to modernize away from the proletariat uniform without rank and status distinction.  They added rank collar tabs, sam brown belts and other ways to distinguish the various ranks.  This is a hard to find, well marked Sam Browne belt of that period.
