Each NVA Company had a Company Commnader and a Political Officer. The Political Officer was an arm of the Party and was actually superior to the Company Commander.   The POs duty was to instruct the members in all things political and propaganda by routinely having meetings to discuss current events, communist theory, self criticism etc.
