Early belts worn by the NVA were mostly leather like this one. Buckles found on these early belts were either thick cast brass buckles or stamped rolled buckles. The brass buckle could have a star or not.

As the war progressed leather belts were found not to be suitable in the hot, wet, Vietnam climate and were replaced by various cotton and web belts.
