A textbook example of the standard issue NVA cardboard sun helmet.
Note the twill cotton cover, the purple glue holding the exterior band to the shell, the all-aluminum hardware, leather chinstrap, pink primer on the M shaped suspension washers, purple tie cord in the headband etc.
This one is unique in that it has Chinese characters written on the rear brim. As you know, there were many ethnic Chinese in Viet Nam particularly in the North. The other theory is it was worn by a ChiCom advisor. More than 600,000 ChiComs were in Vietnam supporting all aspects of the war.
