North Vietnamese armor began to be seen and heard in RVN in the 1960s.

By the start of the Easter Offensive, a full scale conventional invasion, in March 1972, the PAVN had 350 T-54s and Type 59s; an unknown number of PT-76s; unknown number of T-34/85 tanks. These tanks were organized into various Regiments including the 202nd Armored Regiment. The 202nd  consisted  of the 198th and 397th Tank Battalions, plus the 66th and 244th Mechanized Battalions.  The Easter Offensive continued until late October 1972. US Estimates indicate between 250 and 700 PAVN tanks and APCs were destroyed.  US Aviation assets and advisors to the ARVN were critical to the defeat of the NVA.

The 202nd Armor was the unit that invaded Saigon in 1975.
