This is a Japanese type 30 bayonet frog made prior to February 1917.
This frog does NOT have rivets on the two edges.
There is additional sewing at the center of the frog and around the hole for the uniform strap.
The belt loops are more narrow than later frogs
In 1916, the Japanese proposed changing the bayonet frog from this pattern to one using two rivets and eliminating the additional sewing.
This was because frogs were cracking.
The bayonet included was made at the Tokyo Kokura arsenal and came with his frog. Moreover, the use between the frog and the bayonet is consistent. Therefore, we have kept them together.
The string hanging from the small brass buckle is the remnant of a retention lanyard. At the end of the string, a small piece of wood would have been located. This would pass through the muscle ring on the banner, to hold it in the scabbard.
