Every Chinese soldier was issued a waist belt. They held down the grenade pouch, canteen, musette bag and bandoleer.
All belts were leather when the CPV entered Korea.
Enlisted belt seem to have a single prong while officers were often wider with two prongs. This feature, plus a pistol, tended to distinguish officers from enlisted in an army without formal symbols of rank.
There were a great many variants due to the many many factories that made them.
By 1953 the CPV propaganda photos tended to depict their soldiers wearing standardized open face buckles with web belts. This does not mean that leather belts were withdrawn from the CPV as nothing was wasted.
