A nice, used, Luftwaffe Officer’s Overseas Cap.
The wool is higher quality than enlisted. However, the eagle is an Enlisted quality vs wire bullion officer grade.
The eagle was sewn onto the exterior of the hat BEFORE it was assembled. You cannot see bobbin thread when the cap is turned inside out. This tells us that officer’s grade bullion wire insignia was unavailable when the cap was made.
The thick National colors pip was expertly hand sewn to the body of the cap. No thread has passed through the lining.
Visible sweat stains and other wear are present as shown. Any factory marking, which was likely just a size, faded away long ago through ordinary wear.
The interior is gray rayon.
The last two photos shows this cap with some other original Luftwaffe insignia for shade comparison. We have heard that some post war German Air Force Officer caps have been converted to WW2 issue with the addition of insignia. Those caps were more blue than WW2 Luftwaffe gray.
