WW2 Japanese Model 1883 Nine Leaf Surrendered Japanese Navy Officer’s Sword with Tassel, Name Tag & Surrender Bag

This is an exceptionally difficult to find model 1883 Japanese navy sword. This is the first version of the model 1883 sword made with nine leaves on the Handguard.

This particular sword has the original, correct, navy tassel. More importantly, it has the name of the Japanese Navy officer who surrendered the sword still attached to it. As in addition, the surrender cloth bag made of silk, he’s also still with his sword.

The sword is complete with his original leather scabbard with all the brass mountains hangers, etc.

At the end of World War II, when Japanese navy and army officers surrendered, they were required to surrender their swords.  After all, they were still a weapon.

Most Japanese officers who surrendered their swords put a name tag on their sword in hopes that one day it would be returned to them. The name tag often included the name, the rank and their hometown.

nearly 80 years having passed, finding a Japanese sword with original surrender tag and cloth bag is difficult. This is with respect to any Japanese World War II sword. To find an early model 1883 pattern naval officer sword, with its original surrendered tassel, surrender bag and surrender tag is like finding a unicorn.
