As is most armies, the Japanese Army of WW2 gave their officers a clothing allowance. With this they were to purchase their uniforms.
These uniforms were mostly mass produced by uniform companies to Army standards. They were sold in uniform shops on and off base.
This cap is an example of high quality, tropical weight, gabardine wool. It is fully lined with a silk-like material, has a leather sweatband, a leather headband, two brass Sakura (cherry blossom), painted grommets and high quality wool star on a wool pentagon backing.
The lining, as you can see, is hand sewn to the cap.
Everything about this cap says high quality. Undoubtably, there were other caps contemporaneously available at a lesser price, but this was clearly a top shelf item.
Size is about 6 3/4 or 7. It is marked Large under the sweatband as shown.
Better yet it was not worn much, if at all.
