This is a Vietnam era training aid, commonly called a rubber duck. These were made at various forts throughout the United States for use in training soldiers prior to deployment.

These are commonly encountered by basic trainees before they shipped over to Vietnam so they would have at least a visual cue as to what an AK-47 might look like.

We have seen these cast from captured North Korean Type 58 assault rifles.

This particular rubber duck was cast from a Chinese early Type 56 assault rifle with a serial number in the 9 million range.

This one is marked “training aid center fort Lewis, Washington AK 47.”

The selector switch marks are in Chinese characters.
