This is the Non Commissioned Officer's Mapcase. It is smaller than the officer's map case and has a hook to attach to the NCO Sword Belt.

It was a status symbol indicating a well trained soldier. The average enlisted soldier was never taught to read a typographic map.

This is an early map case as it is trimmed in brass on the back edges. The Japanese did away with this more costly feature as the need for brass for use in ammunition increased during the War.

It is complete, supple and marked under the flap. Most of these are dry and cracked with tearing on the edges of the flap.
