This is an antique Japanese samurai sword, likely made around the turn of the century, or possibly before.

The mounts are not military as you can see. The scabbard is red lacquered.

This sword was purchased from the son of a Americal Division Infantry Vet who participated in the campaigns on Bouganville, Leyte, Cebu and in the occupation of Japan. We are in possession of several documents, photos & news articles related to this veteran as well as research that has been conducted about his service. Copies are available upon request. This appears to be a Samurai sword he acquired during occupation. The vet enlisted on 24 Sep 1943 and was discharged 26 Feb 1946.

The blade is 27 1/2 inches long. There is no maker’s signature. It needs some TLC.
